Ich gebe meine These immer wieder gerne zum Besten: Musik ist eine Sprache und die Musiken anderer Länder sind für uns Fremdsprachen. So gesehen konversieren Steampacket und Irish Trad Heads vorzüglich in der bei uns so beliebten Fremdsprache Irish Folk. Dazu zählt bei beiden Bands nicht nur instrumentelle Fingerfertigkeit, sondern auch der selbstverständliche, entspannte und kreative Umgang mit dem Material. Eine weitere Gemeinsamkeit ist, dass sie beide auf dem gleichen Label veröffentlichen. Die neue Firma Lautleise ist eine dieser sympathischen Unternehmungen von Musikern für Musiker. Die Unterschiede liegen im Ansatz und der Instrumentierung. Die fünf von Steampacket machen ihrem Namen alle Ehre und sorgen mit zwei Fiddles, Flöte, Gitarre und Bodhran für mächtig Dampf. Sie konzentrieren sich ausschließlich auf Tunes, während die Irish Trad Heads auch vier Songs einstreuen. Ansonsten spielen die drei Herren und die eine Dame mit Gitarre, Bouzouki, Uilleann Pipes, Whistle, Banjo und Fiddle die vielleicht etwas filigranere Musik. Doch die letzte Gemeinsamkeit lautet: Zwei überzeugende Bands, die einfach gute Musik machen.

This band combines some of the finest Irish folk musicians, and presents Irish music of the highest quality. And yet none of these musicians is actually of Irish nationality, all of them are German. Some of the musicians are well known on the German Celtic scene from their participation in classic German Celtic bands, such as Limerick Junction and Dereelium. Steampacket are: Stephan Schneider and Tina Fastje both on fiddle, Claus Steinort on flute, Rolf Wagels on bodhran and Andreas Lassak on guitar and bass. Steampacket's music is mostly Irish traditional, playing the full range of reels, jigs, waltz, hornpipe; yet there is also the odd finnish polkka, Breton tune or bouree mixed under. The musicians prove that tey are both at home with slow and fast tunes, and the tunes picked are definitely not the usual "run of the mill" session tunes. This is top Irish music, as good as you would find it among the best Irish bands. Irish music fans - watch out for this album!
